Handloom vs. Powerloom
Understanding the Weave Behind Your Saree
When choosing a saree, you may come across the terms handloom and powerloom. These terms describe the method used to weave the fabric—not necessarily the quality or beauty of the finished saree.
At Kashi Vogue, our sarees are powerloom woven, carefully selected for their softness, fabric quality, finish, colour, and overall elegance.
We believe that a beautiful saree is about more than the type of loom used. It is about how the fabric feels, how it drapes, how it looks, and how beautifully it becomes part of your wardrobe.
What Is a Powerloom Saree?
A powerloom uses mechanical power to operate the weaving process. Compared with traditional handlooms, powerlooms allow fabrics to be produced with greater consistency and efficiency.
However, powerloom does not mean poor quality.
The quality of a saree depends on many factors, including the quality of the yarn, fabric composition, weaving, finishing, zari or decorative work, and the care taken during production.
Why We Choose Our Powerloom Sarees
At Kashi Vogue, we specifically look for sarees that offer a soft, comfortable, and luxurious feel.
Our focus is on selecting fabrics that are:
- Soft and comfortable against the skin
- Smooth and pleasant to drape
- Rich in appearance
- Elegant in finish
- Comfortable for extended wear
- Carefully selected for quality and value
We believe you should be able to enjoy the beauty of a Banarasi-inspired saree without compromising on comfort.
Handloom and Powerloom — What’s the Difference?
| Feature | Handloom | Powerloom |
|---|---|---|
| Weaving method | Primarily manually operated | Mechanically powered |
| Production | Generally slower | Generally more efficient |
| Artisan involvement | High | More mechanised |
| Consistency | Natural variations may occur | Generally more uniform |
| Fabric quality | Depends on yarn, weaving and finishing | Depends on yarn, weaving and finishing |

Quality Is More Than the Loom
The word powerloom describes how a saree is woven. It does not by itself determine whether a saree is soft, comfortable, beautiful, or high quality.
Two sarees made on the same type of loom can feel completely different depending on the fabric, yarn, weaving quality, finishing, and craftsmanship involved.
That is why at Kashi Vogue, we focus on the qualities our customers can actually experience:
- Softness.
- Comfort.
- Beautiful Drape.
- Rich Appearance.
- Thoughtful Selection.
Our Promise
We don’t want to sell a saree simply because it carries a name.
We want you to love the way it feels when you touch it, the way it falls when you drape it, and the way you feel when you wear it.
Every Kashi Vogue saree is selected with a focus on quality, softness, elegance, and value.
